Marles passed away Monday, March 1, 2010, at Avera-St. Luke?s Hospital in Aberdeen at the age of 85.

Marles G. Lea was born April 5, 1924 on the family farm in Pleasant Valley Township of Marshall County, South Dakota to George J. and Mabel S. (Granaas) Lea. As a youngster, she grew up there and attended rural Marshall County schools. She graduated from Kidder High School in 1942. After receiving her education, she made her home with her folks on the farm.

After the death of her mother, Marles stayed on the farm to help her father. Marles cared for him until he passed away in 1975. She remained on the farm until moving into the Continental Apartments in Britton in 1998. She has made her home there since that time.

Marles was a member of the Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church of rural Kidder, and had been a part of the Ladies Aide. As a young person, Marles loved to roller skate and enjoyed going to movies. She had a great fondness for animals, especially the dogs that had been a part of her life. Her hands were always busy with craft projects, crocheting, beading or doing jigsaw puzzles. Marles was an avid sports fan and always listened to the NDSU Bison Ladies Basketball team, the Timberwolves and especially the Minnesota Twins. She liked to attend auction sales, rummage sales and look for bargains at thrift stores. Perhaps one of her favorite pastimes over the years was her time spent fishing with Frank Parrow.

Marles is survived by a number of cousins and their families and many friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents and an infant brother.
