I am not sure of the year this was taken, buy my grandmother (the youngest child, Mabel) was born in 1893. So, from that info, I would guess photo was taken shortly after Carl died. Peter's cousin, Christian Engel, lived in the same county (Houston County, Minnesota) and was a photographer and I am sure he was the one who took the picture." | ||

| 20 | William Myron and Sarah (Sørine Lea) Brown Farm Ambrose, Divide County, North Dakota William Myron Brown and Sørine O. Lea began their married life carving this farm from virgin Prairie. Here in the midst of their Herculean efforts, three daughters were born and two daughters died - one at birth and the other before the age of three. Within a few short years, Sørine O. Lea, who as pioneer wife in North Dakota was now Mrs. Sarah L. Brown, succumbed to tuberculosis and died before her surviving daughter had achieved the age of three. | ||

| 23 | William Myron and Sarah (Sørine Lea) Brown Farm SOD CLAIM SHANTY, Ambrose, Divide County, North Dakota Believe this to have been the original "Claim Shanty". A nice layer(s) - up to a few feet thick - of Sod would have been stacked against the walls to protect against the harsh winters. This would have been "home" until the Farm House was made ready. | ||
