| 7 | 1907 "Sarah Lee" Land Patent. 160 Acres near Alkabo, Divide County, North Dakota The pioneer spirit which had moved her Father (after 1852), Maternal Grandfather (1858) and her Mother (1859), to leave homes in Norway and venture to "Amerika", led the unmarried, Sørine O. Lea, to make her way to what was then Williams County, North Dakota. (Divide County was "divided" from Williams County a few years later.) Notes from her daughter Agnes Brown, state that Sørine taught school in Alkabo. This would have been prior to her meeting and marrying William Myron Brown. (We need more detail about this period.) Sørine's "Alkabo" land is located about 20 miles west of the Ambrose, North Dakota Brown Farm. Around the time that Sørine and William did marry, this "Alkabo" parcel was exchanged (by process yet unknown) for the 1/4 Section adjoining the existing William Myron Brown farm in Ambrose. The North 1/2 of Section 9, Township 163 North, Range 98 West, thus comprising the William Myron and Sarah Lea Brown Farm of Ambrose, Divide County, North Dakota. Additional note: Sørine's cousins - Anton, Emma and Thea Gregerson (siblings - and likewise born to Norwegian emigrants who had settled in Vernon Township, Dodge County, Minnesota) - each acquired Land Patents for 1/4 Section Parcels near Sørine's. It would appear that the four acted in concert. | ||
